Making the Leap into Barcode Verification
Some of our barcode testing clients eventually buy a verifier. It is a natural progression and has certain advantages. Shipping barcode samples to us is inconvenient, and although our response time is quick, the time in transit is still a delay.
Testing Service or Buy a Verifier?
What keeps companies from buying a verifier initially? We polled several of our best customers and got a variety of answers:
- The most frequent answer—our product and process demand all hands on deck. We lack the bandwidth to take on another complicated and important task.
- Another recurring rationale—we prefer third-party independent QA to keep us honest and objective.
- A common belief–verifiers are finicky, delicate, and expensive. If they aren’t working right you could have false results and get yourself into trouble.
Don’t Go It Alone
What encourages certain customers to make the leap? Interestingly, it is not a change of heart about the above beliefs. Clients who get their own verifier know they can still count on us for support:
- Assistance installing and calibrating their new verifier
- Configuring the software correctly
- Explaining verification results
- Understanding how to improve results
- Keeping their verifier compliant and reliable
Beliefs vs Truth
Reluctance to get a verifier is often based on the false belief that they will have to go it alone—that somehow our help will be withdrawn, that our commitment to their success is based on a steady stream of invoices and payments.
While we do earn a living doing what we do, the guiding principle is helpfulness.
If that sounds unbelievable, simple-minded, or corny, give us a try.
You might have a change of heart.
